The author’s psychedelic memoir, I Think, Therefore Who Am I? (reprinted in Italy as Penso, dunque chi sono?), left him burned out, broke, and a short attention span. In Digging Deeper he picks up from there, and in discrete, sardonic short stories begins life anew. From New York’s East Village to Berkeley and Europe, through friendship and marriage, as a mailman, newspaper reporter, and gardener, this is a cubist portrait of a sixties survivor negotiating the seventies, aspiring to lead a creative life.
